"Brain, Don’t Make Decisions Now!" – The Survival Guide to Avoid Ruining Your Life at the Wrong Time by JSBaencock

If you’re about to make a big decision, hold on a second. Your brain might be sabotaging you without you even realizing it.

Neuroscience has shown that there are moments when our brain is a worse advisor than a drunk friend. When should you NOT decide?

1. When You’re Hungry (Your Stomach is the Boss, Not Logic)

It’s not a myth: hunger makes you make bad decisions. When glucose levels drop, the prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for logic and planning—shuts down, and your brain enters “I need food NOW” mode.

🔴 Result: You accept ridiculous deals, overspend, and instead of a healthy salad, you end up with three burgers and dessert.

2. When You’re Angry (Your Amygdala Hijacks Your Brain)

Anger is like a hacker: it takes over your system and disables rational thinking. The amygdala—the brain’s threat detector—takes control and makes you react as if you were in the jungle.

🔴 Result: You yell things you don’t mean, send messages you regret, and block half your contacts on WhatsApp.

3. When You’re Overexcited (Everything Seems Like a Great Idea… Until It Isn’t)

When you’re too happy, your brain releases dopamine like crazy, giving you a false sense of invincibility.

🔴 Result: You say YES to everything, buy things you don’t need, and agree to plans that later make you wonder, “Why did I think starting a business selling hats for cats was a good idea?”

4. When You’re Tired (Your Brain is in Energy-Saving Mode)

Lack of sleep makes your prefrontal cortex sluggish and clumsy. It’s like trying to do math after running a marathon.

🔴 Result: You choose the easiest option without thinking. That’s why, at night after a long day, you end up watching cat videos instead of solving life problems.

5. When You’re Anxious or Scared (Your Brain Focuses on Survival, Not Logic)

Fear puts your brain in survival mode, meaning you make choices to avoid risk instead of logically evaluating your options.

🔴 Result: You reject opportunities because of fear of change, procrastinate on projects, and end up with the classic "What if I had tried?"

So, When Should You Make Decisions?

✔️ After eating (your brain works better with glucose).
✔️ With a clear head (without extreme emotions).
✔️ When well-rested (after a good night’s sleep).
✔️ After evaluating options calmly (and without an influencer telling you what to do).

In short: Don’t make big decisions when you’re hungry, angry, or exhausted… unless you want to regret it and blame your brain later.

And remember: When in doubt, sleep on it. A rested mind makes better choices. 😆
